Martin Jetpack
// Web Design & Development
The Project
The Martin Jetpack web design is exciting and original - like the Jetpack. Easy to update using Umbraco CMS, it combines clean design and efficient functionality with Flash animations.
When Glenn Martin decided to launch the Jetpack at OshKosh he wanted a web design as exciting and original as the jetpack. A CMS was required for easy update of all content, as well as a news system, video upload, and RSS feed.
The Solution
A visit to Christchurch gave us a wealth of photographic resource to work with. The final design of the website reflects the high tech materials used to create the jetpack, combined with a retro feel expressing the 60's mystique of the jetpack.
Phosphor worked with the American PR company managing the publicity at OshKosh to make it easy for them to upload video, news, and to link to videos on YouTube. The web design was developed using CSS & javascript, with Flash and Video providing animated elements. A CMS system allows for easy update of all pages.
The Result
Launch date was set to coincide with lift-off at OshKosh - 2:30 AM July 30 in New Zealand. By that time the news had been taken up throughout the US, with articles in the New York Times, Fox News, and many other new services featuring the jetpack. The website was instantly hit hard by visitors from all over the world, especially the US. The first full day finished with 55,000 visitors.
Since launch, the Jetpack has received huge amounts of publicity from various sources. In 2010 Martin Jetpack was featured in the Top Inventions of 2010 in Time Magazine.
