New Zealand Refining Company

// Website design & development

The Project

The New Zealand Refining Company had an existing website which had been created by their IT staff several years earlier. The site needed web design, information architecture, and content to reflect the environmentally sensitive and community oriented organisation, and to attract employees from New Zealand and overseas.

We worked with NZRC to identify four important groups of users: investors, employees, the community, and schools. Stage one of the development covers the needs of investors, potential employees, and the community. Stage two is currently in development - this is an educational resource developed primarily in Flash. Stage three will provide protected interaction for employees.

The environment around the refinery is fragile and very important to the refinery. The web design communicates this concern with extensive use of photos of this environment and a transparent blue design combined with colours from existing branding.

Keyword research was undertaken with emphasis on attracting skilled engineering staff. Initial content was edited, created, and re-written to suit the web and to incorporate keywords where appropriate. AdWords campaigns are run periodically around the careers area.

Umbraco CMS was used to develop the site, which is regularly updated by NZRC. The response from NZRC and their community has been very favourable.
