Content Management Systems ( CMS ) Web Development

// Free, Open Source Content Management

The main content management system which we use is Umbraco.

Umbraco is a .NET CMS, meaning it is easy to integrate with standard Microsoft tools. It's an extremely flexible, allowiing us to customise it to fit your website needs, rather than forcing your website to fit the CMS.

Standard features are: Easy updating in a browser, of text, images, creation of new pages. Role based security, publishing options, integration with .NET web applications, and much more.

Umbraco is Free and Open Source. This means that developers all around the world can access the code and make changes to it.

While there are arguments for and against Open Source systems. In our view, Open Source systems are a better option for you, the client. Some of the benefits are:

  • No License Fees
  • Hosting Flexibility - you can host the site, internally, at another host, or with us. While we hate to lose clients, if at sometime you want to move, you can take the site with you.
  • Up to date development - Open Source software is often more up to date than proprietary CMS, because there are many developers contributing
  • Choice of developers - Free and open source software built on a common platform like .NET gives many developers the opportunity to learn to use the product. Umbraco is widely used globally and in New Zealand.

We have been developing with Umbraco for about 5 years, and have built a large number of sites using this system. Most of our clients find the sites easy to update, normally with only an hour or two of training.

About us
