Self service kiosks providing bill payment services and postage have been installed in eight PostShops on Auckland's North Shore. The kiosks are part of a pilot programme to reduce queues, increase the number of Kiwibank staff and decrease the number of staff in the postal side of the business. The new installations add to the seven PostShops which were previously converted to PostCentres.

PostShops and PostCentres process more than 21 million financial transactions each year and 80 different types of payments can be made. The kiosks allow customers to pay bills to 70 organisations.

New Zealand Post spokesman, John Tulloch, says the majority of customers have been happy with the resulting speed and ease of the DIY service.

"People like the technology explained to them so we find two-to-three times people require a bit of assistance and we've had some useful feedback, but generally it's been very positive and we've had some excellent results."
